Tento článek analyzuje definice národního parku podle mezinárodní (IUCN) a národní (české) legislativy. Konstatuje, že existuje značná různorodost a přijmout jednotný koncept není možné. Vzhledem k českým národním parkům, kde současná tendence je směrem k velkým bezzásahovým územím nazývaným divočina, článek uzavírá, že toto by mělo být jen jedno hledisko. Důvodem je ochrana biodiverzity, která je primárním účelem existence národního parku.

This paper analyses definitions of national park according to international (IUCN) and national (Czech) legislative. It concludes that there is considerable variability and that no universaly valid views are possible. Concerning the Czech National parks, the current tendency towards large unmanaged areas called wilderness is discussed. The conclusion is that despite of it usefulness, wilderness should be only one of the management strategies in order to maintain biodiversity, which is the principal purpose of existience a national park.
