Specializované archivy mají ve struktuře archeologie jako výzkumného oboru nezastupitelné místo. Při terénním výzkumu totiž původní archeologický kontext zpravidla zaniká a terénní dokumentace uložená v archivech pak pro další archeologický výzkum hraje roli primárního pramene. Článek se zabývá strukturou centrálního archivu terénní dokumentace pro území Čech a jeho digitalizací po povodni v r. 2002.

Specialized archives hold a highly valuable position in the discipline of archaeology. As the original archaeological context is typically lost during terrain excavations, terrain documentation stored in archives is a primary source of information for further archaeological excavations. During the 90 years of its existence, the Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic has systematically built an archive of terrain documentation containing data from the institute's own terrain excavations as well as documentation from the excavations conducted by the other organisations working in Bohemia. After part of the archive was damaged in the 2002 floods, the decision was made to convert all documentation into digital form.
