Synthesis of MNP for medical applications includes following points: Nanoparticles cores possessing magnetic properties corresponding to a given application should be developed. Surface properties of the cores that control interactions between particles (single or clustered objects), crucial for a stability of the suspensions and biocompability providing a stealth character of the particles and their long lifetime in the blood compartment should be adjusted. Active targeting employing molecules attached on the particles that bind by specific ligands with receptors at the surface of the targeted cells is desirable. The second part of the lecture is devoted to applications, namely magnetic resonance imaging as diagnostic method and magnetic fluid hyperthermia as therapeutic method.
