The joint action of the external ow turbulence (with intensities from 0.003 up to 0.05 and length scales from 0.002 m up to 0.031 m) and the surface roughness (caused by sandpaper with grids 60, 80 and 100 respectively) on the at plate boundary layer transition is investigated and compared with the by-pass transition on the smooth surface at identical boundary conditions. The existence of the laminar/transitional region and the action of external turbulence were proved regardless the surface roughness.
