High-energy and high power-density pseudocapacitive energy storage device is based on transition metal oxides having solid host structure with open parallel channels accessible to electrolyte ions. Examples of such structures are TiO2(B), VO2(B), FeV3O8 and AlNbO4. The energy storage is achieved by a pseudocapacitive process, which is not controlled by the diffusion of Li in the solid. The same material/process can be also used for hydrogen storage.
