A theory of the intrinsic anomalous Hall effect, based on the space distribution of the current densities, is presented. Spin-orbit coupling gives rise to a spatial separation of the mass centers, of the quasiparticle states having opposite group velocities, this microscopic property is essential for the existence of the anomalous Hall effect.
