V tomto popularizačním článku jsou shrnuty výsledky intenzivního výzkumu a vývoje elektroforetické metodologie a instrumentace pro analýzu významných biologických molekul. Diskutovány jsou nejznámější aplikace elektroforézy, sekvenování lidského genomu, vysoce výkonné a citlivé analýzy v proteomickém výzkumu, analýza chemického obsahu jediné buňky a detekce jednotlivých molekul. Ukázány jsou možnosti elektroforézy v miniaturizovaných mikrofluidických zařízeních s praktickým využitím nejen v analytické chemii, ale i biologii a klinické medicíně.

In this popularization article, an intensive research and development of electrophoresis methodology and instrumentation implemented in bioanalysis are summarized. Discussed are the most famous application of electrophoresis, DNA sequencing of human genome, high-throughput analyses in proteomic research, high-sensitivity analyses of chemical content of individual cells and detection of single molecules. Demonstrated are possibilities of electrophoresis in miniaturized microfluidic devices with a practical importance not only for analytical chemistry but also for biology and clinical medicine.
