When compared to control subjects, both garagemen and bus drivers are at higher risk of DNA, RNA and protein damage due to higher exposure to benzene and carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Particular genetic polymorphisms, older age, high plasma concentration of LDL cholesterol and low consumption of vitamin C may increase the level of this risk.
