Um 1520, ein Marienaltar für die Kirche St. Vitus in Prag ist von Lucas Cranach d. Ä. gemalt. In dem Jahr 1619, es ist einem Kalvinism-orientierten ikonoklastischen Angriff zum Opfer gefallen. Der Aufsatz betrifft nicht nur die Indetifizierung des Ortes, wo der Altar gestanden ist, und seine religiöse Funktion, aber auch die Umstände und Motivation um seinem Verfallen.

Around 1520, the Virgin Mary altar for St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague was painted by Lucas Cranach the Elder. In 1619, it fell victim to the Calvinist iconoclasm in the cathedral. The essay aims at identification of the altar´s place and religious function, as well as clarify the circumstances and motivation behind its destruction. These are more complex than it has been so far showed in scholarship.
