The electrospinning is a technology for preparation of nanofibre sheets using polymer solutions. The properties of solvents as relative permittivity, polarity, and Hansen solubility parameters are very important for formation of nanofibre as well as molecular weight of polymer, viscosity and concentration of polymer solution and other characteristics of solution. Solution viscosity and shape of the polymer chains depend on solvent used for dissolution process of polymer. In this contribution the attention was paid to an influence of shear viscosity on behaviour of polyvinylbuthyral (PVB) solutions in the presence of electric field. PVB was dissolved in a series of solvents. For viscosity measurements there was used an Anton Paar rotational rheometer MCR 501 equipped with the electrorheological cell (bob and cup arrangement, d=17mm). It was found that a course of the viscosity ratio indicates usefulness of the solution studied for applicability in an electrospinning process.
