V posledních letech dochází ke změnám taxonomické struktury hrouzků původně součástí rodu Gobio. Na základě molekulárně genetických analýz byla potvrzeno rozdělení původního rodu Gobio na dva samostatné rody Gobio a Romanogobio. Na území České republiky a Slovenska vlastní základní komplexní druh Gobio gobio je rozlišován na Gobio gobio, Gobio obtusirostris, Gobio carpathicus a Gobio sp. V rodu Romanogobio došlo ke změnám vědeckého pojmenování: původní Romanogobio albipinnatus je rozdělen na dva druhy Romanogobio vladykovi a Romanogobio belingi. Původní Romanogobio kesslerii může být hodnocen jako Romanogobio banaticus a další taxon označený prozatím jako Romanogobio sp. V lokalitách společného výskytu byl zjištěn výskyt i mezirodových hybridů. Uvedené poznatky představují nový významný podnět pro změnu přístupu k ochraně biodiverzity hrouzků v rámci České republiky i Slovenska.

The findings important for preservation of ichthyofauna of the Czech Republic and Slovakia include confirmation of generic differentiation of the original genus Gobio into two genera Gobio and Romanogobio. On the basis of molecular genetics analyses, the originally accepted uniform structure of the species Gobio gobio was divided into the structures which can be assigned the level of species (Gobio gobio, Gobio obtusirostris, Gobio carpathicus and Gobio sp.). In the species of the genus Romanogobio, changes in their scientific designation take place: the original Romanogobio albipinnatus can be divided into the species Romanogobio vladykovi and Romanogobio belingi. The original species Romanogobio kesslerii can be divided into Romanogobio banaticus and apparently also Romanogobio sp. With regard to newly acquired knowledge it is necessary to revise the system of efficient preservation of the biodiversity found in the above mentioned taxa.
