A development of novel prism-coupled surface plasmon resonance (SPR) biosensor based on long-range surface plasmon (LRSP) and its comparison with conventional surface plasmon (cSP)-based SPR sensor is reported. LRSP-based sensors mode provide extended probe depth of LRSP and higher sensitivity to the bulk refractive index changes. Their responses were up to 2.5 and 5.5-fold greater than cSP-based SPR sensor responses for latex beads and the bacterium E. coli, respectively.
