Článek nastiňuje roli, kterou v souvislosti s představami o potřebě regenerace a posílení českého národního charakteru před rokem 1918 hrály obrazy jihoslovanských junáků.
The paper focuses on the role of the South Slavs in Czech representations of the Balkans. Before 1918, "heroic South Slavs" were overwhelmingly constructed as role models for the national regeneration of Czech society, which was frequently criticized for alleged lack of belligerence, courage and heroism in the discourse of its own nationalist intellectuals.
