Thickness of the epidermis of adult graylings varies from 90 to 170 µm. Particularly during the spawning period, the epidermis tends to be thicker in males than in females. However, the differences are not statistically very relevant because of great individual differences.In the upper and middle layers of the epidermis, secretory goblet cells are present. Using histochemical colouring, it has been shown that dominant part of their content consists of acid-sialated and acid sulphated glycoproteins. Less represented are neutral and acid carboxylated glycoproteins.

Síla pokožky dospělných jedinců kolísá u lipana podhorního od 90 do 170 µm. U samců, zejména během třecího období, bývá silnější než u samic, tyto rozdíly však nejsou vzhledem k velkým individuálním rozdílům příliš statisticky průkazné. V povrchové a střední vrstvě pokožky jsou přítomny secretory goblet cells. Pomocí histochemických barvení bylo prokázáná, že dominantní složkou jejich obsahu jsou acid-sialated, dále acid sulphated, málo jsou zastoupeny neutral a acid carboxylated glycoproteins.
