For elastic continua containing cracks, the stresses usually have been obtained from two-dimensional analysis assuming either plane stress or plane strain and, therefore, they are constant across the thickness of the body. However, for fracture specimens of finite thickness, the stress-state in the region where the crack front intersects the free surfaces orthogonally is still an unsolved issue. The authors of the contribution focused on the problem of stress distribution through the thickness of elastic body from three various analytical concepts.
