Large scale excavations of Early Neolithic settlement area in Bylany have been conducted since 1950th. It was the first similarly conceived exposure of a large Neolithic settlement area surface with many house ground plans and adjacent pits. Processing of the material has gone on since; it comprises large set of data and information about the archaeological sources and their formal, symbolic and spatial attributes. Owing to the immense quantity of data collected over the many years of archaeological research in Bylany, it proved necessary to create a central system allowing for effective use of the recorded data. The result was a compact set consisting of a database, graphic documentation and GIS map that were published on CD and were also released on internet (www.bylany.com).

Velkoplošný systematický výzkum osídlení z období staršího neolitu v Bylanech započal v padesátých letech. Jednalo se o první takto koncipovaný odkryv rozlehlé plochy neolitického sídelního areálu s mnoha půdorysy domů a k nim přilehlých jam. Průběžné zpracování probíhá dodnes a zahrnuje velký soubor informací o vlastních archeologických pramenech a jejich formálních, symbolických i prostorových vlastnostech. Za dobu čtyřiceti let trvání archeologického výzkumu v Bylanech se těchto informací podařilo shromáždit obrovské množství, proto se ukázalo potřebné vytvořit centrální systém umožňující efektivní využití evidovaných dat. Výsledkem je kompaktní sestava zahrnující databázi, obrazovou dokumentaci a mapu GIS, které jsou publikovány na CD a současně jsou zveřejněny na internetu (www.bylany.com).
