Experimental measurements were performed in a transparent glass, 6-m-tall column with an inner diameter of 0.08 m. Three different kinds of solids, were employed in the experiments: ceramsite, glass beads and high-calcium, coarse-grained limestone. It was discovered that the different bubbling regimes, classified into several types, can be unambiguously identified according to a single numerical value of the quantity M computed from the pressure fluctuations measured within the bed. It was also established that the energy function, normalized with respect to pressure conditions in the column, Er, is well suited to pinpoint the starting point of dilute.
