Experiments led to conclusions that CO2 added to the gasification agent would be converted to CO to only very limited extent while CO2 dilution effect would seem to be relatively strong. The conversion of CO2 was enhanced by the use of calcinated limestone as the bed material. Limestone also showed strong catalytic activity towards higher production of H2 and CO and more than 90% reduction in content of tar in the producer gas in comparison to silica sand. Optimal temperature for the in-bed use of limestone was proposed to be around 850 °C.
