Synoptic and climatological characteristics of heat waves over East Asia and Europe as well as their biometeorological impacts are compared. The record-breaking heat waves in both regions are closely associated with prolonged droughts. In particular, reduction of soil moisture, precipitation and cloud cover and enhancement of insolation during the drought periods are very likely to be related to the increase in the intensity and the duration of heat waves.

Srovnány jsou synoptické a klimatologické charakteristiky horkých vln nad východní Asií a Evropou a jejich biometeorologické dopady. Rekordní horké vlny v obou oblastech jsou úzce vázány na období sucha. Zmenšení půdní vlhkosti, srážek a oblačnosti a zvýšení insolace během suchých období jsou velmi pravděpodobně spojeny s nárůstem intenzity a trvání horkých vln.
