Campthothecin (CPT, a topoisomerase I inhibitor) induces UCP2 expression on both mRNA and protein level in cardiomyocytes. Our results suggest that activation of p38MAPK-regulated signaling cascade leads to increased expression of UCP2 in cardiomyocytes, offering a protecive mechanism against CPT-related apoptosis
