Purinergic P2X receptors represent a novel structural type of ligand-gated ion channels activated by extracellular ATP. So far, seven P2X receptor subunits have been found in excitable as well as non-excitable tissues. Purinergní P2X receptory představují nový strukturální typ ligandem aktivovaných iontových kanálů aktivovaných extracelulárním ATP. Dosud bylo nalezeno sedm podjednotek P2X receptrů v excitabilních i neexcitabilních tkáních. V tomto přehledu jsme shrnuli současné poznatky o struktuře P2X receptorů, jejich expresi a roli, kterou ATP a P2X receptory hrají v hypothalamu a hypofýze
