Twelve serum samples from patiens with symptomatic borreliosis and one from patient with endocarditis associated with borrelial infection were analyzed. The flagelin gene was chosen as the target of the analysis. Virtual hybridization with B. burgdorferi s.l. probe confirmed the association of the analyzed samples with Lyme disease complex. The sequence comparison, the obtained RFLP patterns as well as the results of virtual hybridization with the specie specific probes revealed that 3 samples carried single B. bissettii infection and four cases had B. bissettii co-infected with other borrelia species. After the first isolation of B. bissettii from samples of human origin in Slovenia, our results are the second evidence of involvment of B. bissettii in LD. The presence of B. bissettii as single Borrelia strain in patients with symptomatic borreliosis or chronic borrelial infections strongly supports the fact that B. bissettii could be a causative agent of Lyme disease.
Virtuální hybridizace s B. burgdorferi s.l. sondou potvrdila sounáležitost vzorků do skupiny spirochét Lymské boreliózy (LD). Analýza sekvencí, získaný RFLP profil a výsledky virtuální hybridizace s druhově specifickými sondami ukázaly, že 3 vzorky v sobě měly jedinečnou infekci B. bissettii a další 4 měly B. bissettii v koinfekci s dalšími druhy borelií.
