The purpose of the present study is to address the relationships between sick leave, unemployment, and average pay with respect to the different Czech districts. The findings are compared with commensurate EU data of 18 European countries. Poorer Czech districts report higher sick leave rate and higher unemployment rate. However, these relationships do not apply when European countries parameters instead of Czech districts parameters are entered: Poorer countries tend to the lower level of sick leave rate; no relationship is found between illness and the level of unemployment.

Cílem studie byl vztah mezi pracovní neschopností, nezaměstnaností a průměrným výdělkem v různých českých okresech a krajích. Výsledky byly srovnány se srovnatelnými evropskými daty. Chudší české kraje vykazují vyšší pracovní neschopnost a vyšší úroveň nezaměstnanosti. Tyto vztahy však neplatí na úrovni evropských států, kdy chudší státy vykazují nižší pracovní neschopnost. Rovněž vztah mezi pracovní neschopností a nezaměstnaností se na evropské úrovni nepotvrdil.
