The high-sensitivity method of temperature measurement has been applied to explore a role of photosynthetic efficiency in light-induced heating of leaves. The heating effect has shown non-linear correlation with the extent of non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) in photosystem II. The heating effect was also enhanced by stimulation of NPQ. The experimental results have been explained on the basis of newly developed model characterizing balance of energy fluxes in leaves
