An extensive overview is given on the history of electrostatic optics and of the optical properties of electrostatic lenses, their optical behavior and its computation. Further the questions of practical design of lenses are discussed, including the problems of electrode and insulator material selection and processing. Finally applications of electrostatic lenses in electron microscopes are given.

Dále jsou uvedeny otázky praktické konstrukce čoček včetně výběru materiálu elektrod a izolátorů a jejich opracování. V závěru jsou popsány aplikace čoček v elektronové mikroskopii.
