Avifauna Islandu je celkově chudší na ptačí druhy než avifauna česká, je však poměrně bohatá zejména na ptáky vodní a bahňáky. Z teoretického hlediska je zajímavá i tím, které druhy postrádá ve srovnání s ptactvem odpovídající zeměpisné šířky ve Skandinávii, a jaké jsou pravděpodobné příčiny tohoto stavu.

Avian fauna of Iceland has a lower species diversity than that of Czechland. However, it is relatively rich in waterbirds and limicolids. From a general point of view, it is also interesting which avian species, inhabiting corresponding latitudes in Scandinavia, are absent in Iceland and what are probable reasons for this absence.
