Kniha se zaměřuje na sociologické teorie jednání. Pokouší se sociologickou teorii představit jako oblast zkoumání umožňující reflexi teoretického vývoje řešení problémů. Největší pozornost je věnována přístupu rozvinutému Talcottem Parsonsem, v němž je naznačeno, že teoretický vývoj spočívá v proměně kategorií.

The book concentrates on sociological theories of action and their conditions of possibility. It tries to present sociological theory as a field of study enabling substantial insights into theoretical development of its central categories. Most attention is paid to an approach developed by Talcott Parsons, suggesting that theoretical development consists in transformation of categories.
