Lead iodide /PbI2/ belongs to materials for high efficiency uncooled solid state detectors operating at room temperatures. The method of direct synthesis of the elements lead and iodine has been worked out and applied. A special constructed ampoule from quartz glass has been used. Microscopic measurements have presented the layer structure. The resistivity has been estimated and the low temperature photoluminescence measurements as well for characterization of this material.
