Long-period gratings /LPG/ in single-mode fibres with a regular parabolic-index profile in the fibre cladding were analyzed theoretically. By using a 2D-bidirectional mode expansion and propagation /BEP/ method for planar waveguides for numerical modelling, LPG transmission spectra were obtained. It has been found that the core-cladding modal coupling is stronger than in comparable standard step-index fibres and that the LPG tranmission spectra are basically unaffected by the external refractive index.
