Straight PCS detection fibers with short sensing regions excited by an inclined collimated beam are investigated for the detection of aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons dissolved in water. Two types of thermally curable polysiloxane polymers developed in Romania and UV curable commercially available polymer were used for the preparation of the detection membranes. Data showing the sensitivity of the membranes to toluene dissolved in water in concentrations below 10 mg/l are given in paper.
