Pigs reperesent an important experimental model in studies of morphological, immunological and other biomedical mechanisms. This work examined activation of apoptosis under experimental conditions of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). The aim of this study was to observe the influence of CPB on apoptotic DNA changes in the most exposed tissues, mainly heart, lung, blood and bone marrow cells. Our results suggest that programmed cell death can play an important role in pathophysiological consequences of CPB.
