The ISB has its resistence in the town of České Budějovice (Budweis) in Southern Bohemia, 140 km south of Prague, on a campus shared with five other Institutes of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (AS CR) and the University of South Bohemia. It covers important fields of contemporary soil biological research, particularly studying the soil biota contribution to soil functioning and structure, analysing interactions between animals and microorganisms and between soil biota and both biotic and abiotic structures and processes in soils, and dealing with the impacts of anthropogenic pressure on ecosystems.
