The biosynthetic pathway of the formation of males' marking pheromones of two bumblebee species, .I.Bombus lucorum./I. and .I.B. lapidarius./I., was studied. After applications of deuterium labelled palmitic acid into either the head capsules or abdomens of males, the corresponding deuterium labelled pheromone components were detected in labial glands.
