Acidity of sterically hindered carboxylic acids has been explained by steric inhibition to resonance (SIR) and van der Waals tension. These two terms have evaluated comparing two isomers, 2-.I.tert./I.-butylbenzoic acid and 4-.I.tert./I.-butylbenzoic acid.
