The v-Myb oncoprotein transforms myeloid cells and induces acute monoblastic leukemia in chickens. We found that deletion of v-Myb PEST-like (P1) domain almost eliminates presence of leukemic monoblasts in the peripheral blood but not their accumulation in the bone marrow (BM). Ex vivo experiments used to compare wild type (wt) and ëP1 v-Myb BM monoblasts led to the conclusion that leukemia formation requires the growth factor independency and specific adhesion properties induced in monoblasts by wt v-Myb.
