Immunohistochemical analysis of E-cadherin and á-catenin was performed in human colorectal cancer as well as in intestinal tumours of transgenic APC1638N mice and in surrounding normal intestinal tissues. The expression of both markers was reduced in human as well as in mouse tumours. Furthermore E-cadherin and á-catenin expression did not correlate to the Duke's staging of tumours and therefore neither can be used as prognostic criteria.
