Isotactic polypropylene was modified by a specific beta-nucleator and specimens for structure characterization were prepared by injection molding. Distinctly higher beta-phase content was found in the skin layer as compared to the specimen core. Morphology profiles revealed a thinning of the skin with increasing mold temperature. The degree of surface damage caused by photo-oxidative degradation strongly depended on the morphology.
