The possibilities to control supermolecular structure of semicrystaline polymers are reviewed together with the methods for the characterization of individual levels of their hierarchical structure. Some of the methods can also follow structural changes within the corresponding structural elements. The contemporary method of acoustic emission sensitively monitors crack initiation and propagation in specimens during a stress-strain test.
