It was found that functional end-groups can be introduced into oligo(diphenylvinylene) molecules if the McMurry coupling polymerization of benzil is performed in a presence of a suitable reactive precursor such as 9-fluorenone. The oligomers prepared show very high stability in air and a good solubility in organic solvents.
