The nanocomposites of iron nanoparticles in carbon phases prepared by spark synthesis, laser pyrolysis and mechanical milling were investigated. Structure and phase analysis were carried out by Mössbauer spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, TEM, and magnetic measurement. In the as-prepared state a nanocrystalline iron, iron carbides, iron oxides and carbon phases were identified. Mean particle size were 10 - 30 nm. Using additional heat treatment higher amount (about 95%) of iron atoms in a-Fe particles were obtained. The particles had mean diameters about 30 - 50 nm and were closed in graphite shells.
