Knowledge of the electron density distribution in the ionosphere is essential for predicting ionospheric characteristics for radio wave propagation and for other applications such as satellite tracking, navigation, etc. Geomagnetic storms cause complicated changes of different magnitude in complex morphology of the electric fields, temperature, winds and composition, and subsequently affect electron density height profile. Considering different composition and the spectrum of the UV reaching each ionospheric region according to altitude, all regions have their own unique structural characteristics and, therefore, the different response of each region to storm-induced disturbances is expected. This contribution summarises the results of the daytime electron density distribution analysis at the F1 region heights with emphasis paid to the F1 region behaviour under geomagnetic storm conditions.
