The chapter summarised an up-to-date knowledge about common carp, with comments on the relative species of genus Cyprinus. Particularly the synonymics, morphology, karyotype, infraspecies structure are presented, original and actual geographical distribution of all taxa, ecological requirements, behavioural aspects, growth rate and longevity, reproduction and early ontogeny, population parameters, parasites and diseases and economic importace.
