Cílem příspěvku bylo posoudit intenzitu vlivu velkých býložravců na porosty jeřábu v oblasti nadregionálního biocentra Kněhyně. Analýza současného stavu prokázala, že zvěř celkově neohrožuje vývoj porostů jeřábu a ani neovlivňuje jejich úlohu ve stadiu přípravného lesa v procesu přirozené obnovy lesních porostů.

Study of an impact of big herbivorous mammals (brown hare, roe and red deer) on stands of European mountain ash (Sorbus aucuparia) was carried out in the Kněhyně National Nature Reserve (980-1250 m a.s.l.), the Moravian-Silasian Beskids Mountains. Game species browsed terminal shoots of rowan and delayed growth of young trees up to three - four years on clearings and up about ten years under canopy. Rowan seedlings up to 70 cm in a height are browsed more intensively than that above 100 cm of height. In general, in winter browse of shoots is relativelly small (cca 35%) due to an absence of roe and red deer in the preserved area. They migrate to lower altitudes when a high snow cover. Recently, big herbivorous mammals do not alter the rowan stands dramatically and do not prevent their development. They do not affect a role of mountin ash in a process of natural regeneration of mountain forest stands in the Kněhyně National Nature Reserve.
