Výzkum vlivu drobných zemních savců na lesní porosty probíhal v letech 1998-2000 v rámci projektu, který se zabýval problematikou péče o nadregionální biocentrum Kněhyně.

An impact of small terrestrial mammals on forest regeneration was studied at National Nature Reserve Kněhyně-Čertův mlýn in Moravian-Silesian Beskids Mountains. The dynamics of dominance of the most numerous species, important in forest ecology, was expressed. After the heavy snow winter with highest population densities of voles, 19% of all controlled young trees were damaged by debarking in some degree. Bark of young deciduous trees was more attractive for voles (21% damaged). Apodemus flavicollis population was synchronized with a good harvest of beech nuts and nuts also dominated in its diet.On experimental plots, the minimal impact of small mammal species on the beech seedlings was observed. Degree of small mammal impact is related to forest management, small mammal population densities and also to the snow condition during the winter.
