    The survey outlines initial studies on the formation and metal complexation of the monoanionic tricarbollide ligands. These are, in contrast to the dianionic dicarbollide anions, perfect cluster analogues of Cp. It should be, however, noted that, in contrast to the smooth complexation of the Csub2/subBsub3/sub open face in the dicarbollide series, the tricarbollide Csub3/subBsub2/sub face can be complexed only under forcing conditions, otherwise no complexation is achieved.
