The article briefly reviewes information on the occurence of of benzo[c]phenanthridine alkaloids (QBA) in plats and on their chemical properties important from the viewpoint of QBA biological and biochemical activities. Than recent results of investigation of authors on QBA are presented: 1. Identification of chemical forms of sanguinarine and cheleryhtrine that complex with mercapto nuclophiles and the determination of stability constants that characterize their binding with human serum albumin;2. Inhibition effects of sanguinarine, cheleryhtrine and fagaronine on DPP-IV-like enzymes isolated from blood plasma and human and rat glinoma cell lines; and 3. QBA role in the genesis of epidemic dropsy syndrome.
