We used the post-column addition of Ag+ cations for the ionisation of HMW-PAHs in standard electrospray after their separation by reversed-phase HPLC. Molecular ions of these compounds were observed either by skimmer-nozzle fragmentation or by MS/MS. Liquid chromatography/argentation electrospray ionisation ion trap mass spectrometry was applied for the analysis of heavy polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons with molecular mass exceeding 300 Da in air and soil samples from contaminated industrial area.
