The method of instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) was for determination of race amounts of bromine and iodine in connection with the investigation of mutual interaction of these trace elements in the rat thyroid gland. A procedure exploiting the short-term activation regime in a nuclear reactor for simultaneuous determination of Br and I in samples of the whole rat thyroids and their separated fractions is described. The determination of mentioned elements is based on gamma-spectrometric measurement of induced radioactivity of 80Br and 128I nuclides with an HPGe detector. The elaborated procedure was verified by analysing different types of samples prepared from the thyroids of rats maintained under the conditions of various bromide and iodide intake.
