In experiments with lactating rats effect of a high bromide intake on the iodide accumulation in the mammary gland was studied. High bromide intake caused a decrease in the iodide concentration in the mammary gland and also an increase in the iodide excretion through the kidneys. The decrease in the iodide transfer to the young through the mother milk and/or an increase in the bromide concentration in the milk caused a decrease in the body weight of the young and affected their thyroids.
