Anotace se soustřeďuje na hlavní problémy týkající se postavení žen v matematiček, které získaly titul PhD. v období před 2. světovou válkou v USA a popis zkušeností žen matematiček ve výzkumném vzorku. Zabývá se zejména 'mýtem vědecké kariéry', který je založen na premise lineárního budování vědecké kariéry bez jakéhokoli přerušení a bez dalších zájmů ze strany vědce. Výzkum ukazuje, že z různých (strukturálně-institucionálních či osobních) tato premisa neplatí pro budování vědecké kariéry žen.

The annotation concentrates on the main problems concerning women mathematicians who received PhD. before WWII and a description of the experiences of women in mathematics in the research sample. It deals with the 'myth of the scientific career' based on the premise of a linear building of a scientific career without any interruptions. The research shows that due to various reasons (institutions-structural and person) such a presumption does not apply to women's scientific careers.
